Posted: 07 Sep 2010 10:57 AM PDT A few months ago I blogged about some Web Camp events that Microsoft is sponsoring around the world. These events provide a great way to learn about ASP.NET 4, ASP.NET MVC 2, and Visual Studio 2010. The events are free and the feedback from people attending them has been great. We are working to setup many more web camps around the world in the months ahead. This Friday (September 10th) we'll be holding a free web camp in Los Angeles. Phil Haack, Jon Galloway, and James Senior will all be presenting at the event – so it will be really good. Details on the Los Angeles Web Camp can be found here . We just got additional space so some extra seats are now available. They are filling up fast, though, and will be sold out soon. ...(read more) |
Introduction to Shapes in Silverlight 4 Posted: 07 Sep 2010 03:48 AM PDT In earlier versions of Silverlight, there are very few shape controls like Rectangle, Ellipse available. Silverlight on Windows Live Photos Posted: 07 Sep 2010 10:05 AM PDT I really like the subtle use of Silverlight on Windows Live Photos – it's not one of those over-the-top spinning, projection based UI's but it makes the experience for uploading photos and for viewing in a SlideShow just a lot nicer. If you've not seen...( read more )...(read more) |

Infopath XSD to SQL Server Table Posted: 03 Sep 2010 04:22 PM PDT Ixsd2db makes it easier for infopath developers to create database tables from infopath xsd file. Its developed in C#. This tool does not support child groups at this time. But that is something we are looking to have it in future. |
Blend Bits 6: Paths Are Your Friend (2) Posted: 07 Sep 2010 06:42 AM PDT Once you've got a Path or two you can have fun with them by combining them in lots of different ways. For instance, if we take these 2 Rectangles that have been converted into Paths; then I can make them into a single Path that can then be manipulated...( read more )...(read more) |
Blend Bits 5: Paths Are Your Friend (1) Posted: 07 Sep 2010 03:08 AM PDT There are a number of ways to create Paths in Blend. You can use the Pencil or the Pen Tools to draw them as you can see below; The Pencil gives you the freedom to draw whatever you like ( or, in my case it allows you to just make a big mess ); You'll...( read more )...(read more) |
September 14th: Silverlight Network Stack Session in Birmingham Posted: 07 Sep 2010 02:18 AM PDT Just a quick plug. Blend Bits 4: Get Your Grids Sorted Posted: 07 Sep 2010 01:52 AM PDT Let's say that I want to create a UI using a Grid with 3 rows in it and I want the bottom row to be sized to its content and the other 2 rows to be sized in a 1:2 ratio. Firstly, I'd say that I tend to leave Grids in Grid layout mode in Blend. You can...( read more )...(read more) |
Blend Bits 3: Watch Your Margins Posted: 07 Sep 2010 01:27 AM PDT If I'm working on this layout with a simple grid; and I add a Button to that top left (0,0) grid cell by selecting the button control over on my "Tools" window and then drawing a Button within the grid cell or by just double-clicking in the grid cell...( read more )...(read more) |
Blend Bits 2: Learn a Few Keyboard Shortcuts Posted: 07 Sep 2010 01:19 AM PDT My second tip on Blend is to learn a few keyboard shortcuts. It's not that hard. Honest. I don't mean that you have to sit down and religiously learn them all. There's quite a lot and they're well documented in the help ( Blend Help is good by the way...( read more )...(read more) |

Blend Bits 1: Layout the Environment Posted: 07 Sep 2010 12:47 AM PDT My first thought about Blend is that it's a big beast and demands a serious love in terms of the number of pixels you devote to it. I've often had to demo Blend in front of audiences at a resolution of 1024x768 and it really means that you end up focusing...( read more )...(read more) |
