Expression SuperPreview – No VPCs required !!! Posted: 21 Sep 2009 07:05 AM PDT IE 6 doesn't live happily side by side with IE 7 or IE 8 To do compatibility testing of a web page I usually have to fire up a VPC and access the page from a browser instance inside that VPC (one VPC for IE6, another one for IE7, etc.) Lately I've started using " SuperPreview ". It plugs in to Expression Web and lets you choose what browser to preview your page in (IE 6/7/8, Firefox) Very cool ! Read More......(read more) |

Tip/Trick: Increase your VS screen real estate by disabling HTML Navigation Bar Posted: 21 Sep 2009 12:50 AM PDT Below is a tip/trick I twittered via my Twitter account earlier today. A number of people seemed interested in – so I thought i'd blog it here too. HTML Navigation Bar in VS 2008 By default, when you are in HTML source-editing mode with VS 2008 and Visual Web Developer 2008 Express edition there is a set of drop-downs that are rendered immediately above the HTML text editor view: This set of drop-downs is called the "Navigation Bar", and in the VS 2008 HTML editor they allow you to navigate between functions and methods defined within the HTML. These include both JavaScript client-side functions defined inline within the .aspx/.html file, and server-side methods defined in-line within the .aspx file when in single-file...(read more) |

Fluent API for .NET RIA Services Metadata Posted: 20 Sep 2009 09:34 PM PDT .NET RIA Services relies heavily on metadata annotations for expressing intent beyond what can be inferrd via convention. For example, validation rules on entities and members can be declared as annotations, which then enable a variety of consumption scenarios. We also have metadata for describing model aspects in DAL-agnostic fashion, and hints for automatic UI-generation. What we have today is just a first step. The general design we're enabling is actually quite flexible. For example, a number of developers want to have metadata specified external to their code, for example in XML files or in a database. Some don't like attributes, and have asked for a fluent interface instead. In RIA Services, we wanted to create a consistent API...(read more) |
